OSTEOPATHY FOR BABIES
Paediatric Osteopathy
Gentle support for your baby
The early months with your baby can be beautiful — and sometimes challenging. If your baby seems unsettled, uncomfortable or difficult to soothe, gentle osteopathic care may offer support.
At Recover, paediatric osteopathy is a calm, family-centred approach to caring for your baby’s developing body. We use very gentle, hands-on techniques to assess and support the musculoskeletal system — helping your baby move more comfortably and with greater ease.
Why might a baby need osteopathic support?
Birth, positioning in utero and early feeding patterns can all influence a baby’s neck, jaw, spine and soft tissues. Even straightforward births can involve significant forces through a newborn’s body. In some babies, this may contribute to tension, asymmetry or discomfort.
Paediatric osteopathy aims to:
Ease areas of tension
Improve movement symmetry
Support comfortable feeding
Encourage calm settling
Promote healthy postural development
Care is always tailored to your baby and guided by current evidence and safe clinical practice standards.
What to expect at an appointment
Your first appointment begins with a detailed conversation. We take time to understand your pregnancy, birth experience and your baby’s early weeks — including feeding, sleep and settling patterns.
A gentle physical assessment follows, observing posture, muscle tone and movement. Treatment techniques are subtle, light and designed to feel calm and comfortable. Babies can be fed, cuddled or settled at any time during the session. There is no forceful manipulation.
Common concerns we support
We commonly see babies presenting with:
Unsettledness or irritability
Feeding or latch difficulties
Head favouring or developing flat spots
Digestive discomfort
Colic or reflux symptoms
If ever appropriate, we work collaboratively with maternal and child health nurses, lactation consultants, GPs and other health professionals to ensure your baby receives the right support.
